The original Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland book was published in 1865 by the author Lewis Carroll, although this was not his real name.
Lewis Caroll was a pseudonym for the real writer Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, chosen for him by an editor of one of his books.
This book is more often referred to by the shorter name Alice in Wonderland and has been turned into a film many times throughout the 20th and 21st centuries.
It appears that the story takes place in a dream-like state that is being experienced by the main character Alice, a 7-year old girl.
Alice passes out after feeling drowsy and finds herself shrinking down in size and follows a rabbit with a pocket watch hopping past down a hole.
Inside this rabbit hole, she experiences various situations with increasingly strange non-human characters that build up until she ends up witnessing a trial.
The trial is for a character called the Knave of Hearts who is accused of stealing the Queen’s tarts – during the trial, Alice starts to return to her normal size.
During this expansion the court becomes angry and the guards attract Alice just as her sister is waking her up in the real world.
